Naked Kiwis

Air New Zealand made an advertisement, that I was just very surprised this summer, I just find it awesome, not only because all the airlines worker in the advertisement are totally naked and body painted, but also they are real Air New Zealand employees. Well the message in this ad is clear; the airline has nothing to hide. Could they have done it in another way, yeah for sure, but did they choose the best way, absolutely.

But beside that, this ANZ has a lot service to offer, like the express check-in and the catering before the plane take off (maybe it is only for the ad though). But you see whole lot stuff.

In the beginning, the guy picks up something on the floor, it represent security. The naked tarmac men are charging gently the luggages and you see that everybody loves their job.

If you go deeper into the advertisement, you will notice that they chose their B-737 instead of their bigger B-777 or B-747. Why that? Because, first of all, it is the most beautiful thing that transport people in the world, and also it is a mid range aircraft, for flights maybe from Auckland to Christchurch or to Sydney. This airplane also has a 3-3 seating pattern, so it looks large and rich, not like the turboprops. The engine also look huge compare to the body of plane and it impress. Even more, ANZ wanted to compete against the low-cost that has a lot of hidden fees which operates medium flights (low cost loves 737s). They did keep the advertisement clean to have the high quality of a flag carrier and a member of Star Alliance.

The song is very happy, and it goes with the funny nakedness of the advertisement. It’s Under my skin by Gin Wigmores, a kiwi, which brings a real local flavour, which is really important if they want to reconquer the interior market!

Having real ANZ employees acting their real role in that advertisement is really nice. It brings the affection to the company. WestJet is doing that, or pretending so, and it is working very well.

I hope you love that advertisement as much as I do.

By the way, you don’t see any interesting body parts in that ad, sorry!!!

First Post

I am starting a blog about one of my passion, Publicity. I will analyse and give my opinion about advertisements that amaze me, in a good, bad or in a weird way. I have a Bachelor degree in Retailing & Consumer Sciences from Laval University in Québec City. I hope that you will enjoy my analysis!!!
